What is Positive Behaviour Support?
Positive Behaviour Support is an evidence-based, human rights-focused framework designed to understand and address behaviours of concern. Rather than simply trying to stop a behaviour, PBS focuses on safeguarding a person's autonomy, strengthening their relationships and directly improving their overall quality of life. In the Australian NDIS context, PBS is a specialised intervention for individuals whose behaviour may pose a threat to themselves or others, or significantly impact their daily life. At HeadSmart, we take a curious, collaborative approach to understanding challenging behaviour. We look past the behaviour itself to discover what it is communicating or achieving for the individual, asking what needs to change so that they may have better options.
